Why marking matters
A wiring harness often carries dozens of cables of the same colour and the same cross section. Without marking, they are hard to identify during assembly, fault finding and service. Good marking is unambiguous, remains permanently legible and matches the documentation used by the customer.
An overview of the methods
- Printing on the cable insulation, for example with cable numbers
- Labelled heat shrink sleeves at the cable ends
- Labels and flag markers on branch outlets and connectors
- Coloured core insulation and colour codes
- Coded connectors as a mechanical safeguard against mix-ups
What matters
- An unambiguous system, matched to the circuit diagram and the bill of materials
- Resistance to abrasion, oil, cleaning agents and temperature
- Legibility once installed
- A defined position, for example a set distance from the connector
Marking at Powertune
We mark wiring harnesses to your specification: with labels, for example with a part number and a DataMatrix code, by inkjet printing on the cables or packed in resealable bags. Where we do the design ourselves, we define the system directly in the drawing, so that assembly, testing and service all use the same designations.
